New!!!! Services for Artists by Artist click here for more info. The Power of Three by Rhonda R. Napoleon During the last week of July, I traveled with Vicki Visconti-Tilley and Francine Dufour on a 20 hour drive to the Faerieworlds Festival near Eugene, Oregon (http://www.faerieworlds.com/). On this long adventure we had nothing but time to brainstorm. One of us would come up with a basic idea, then another would pipe up and finally the third would burst in with the final touch. Before we knew it, we were exploding with ideas and plans for the future! It’s amazing what three artists with different styles and personalities can do when they work together to lift each other up. We are all stronger and better as a unit than when we stand alone. As a digital artist, I love to make humorous faux magazine covers using Adobe Photoshop in theme of my village’s community events. During the festival, we used those covers for our customers to purchase. On Saturday, we were talking to customers around our booth when suddenly we all looked forward and at each other with a knowing smile. What were those enchanting creatures in the field looming in the morning myst? Larger than life, there stood Toni DiTerlizzi’s Nixie from his book “Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You” (http://www.diterlizzi.com/) and her maternal guardian. We already knew what the finished concept would be. These fine creatureswere led to our booth to be “dusted” by capturing their essence on film to be spotlighted on our magazine cover.
As if we had worked together for years, Francine, Vicki and I each did our part to make the magic happen. Vicki and I fluttered about as we posed our new found friends while Francine photographed in her mischievous playful way. I quickly uploaded the images, with my brain running on overdrive and my fingers rushing to keep up. Ideas were abundantly flowing from our mouths like the noise of buzzing bees to honey. Excitement built around our booth from the onlookers as Tony’s book came to life. The finished cover was placed outside while we interviewed these lovely women who honored Mr. DiTerlizzi through custom designed costumes made especially for this event. Wendy McCollim, an event’s planner and her daughter Brandy were an instant hit. After a short time, we were greeted by Angela, Tony’s wife
who happened to come by our booth with a friend. We put together a custom cover for her husband. Francine and I went to the Storyopolis booth (http://www.storyopolis.com/) where Tony was seated next to Michael Hague (http://michaelhague.com/ ) I presented Tony with the cover as fans took photos. It was truly a delight to see the expression on Tony’s face when he received his gift. What a wonderful time we had using the power of three! Will you be the next to get dusted by the “Wild” Women of the Myst? |
